The One with the Baby Musings

I’m basically addicted to lately now that I’m 33 weeks pregnant and “nesting” (not a fan of the word…). So between my busy schedule of sitting on my butt relaxing and sitting on  my butt relaxing, I like to plan what I’m going to do in the apartment/at the hospital/in life when this baby arrives. SO! Here’s a bit of a roundup or rather random musings of things baby or birth related!

LABOR/BIRTH:

I want this Hatch Collection hospital box! It has a robe, comfy tee, cashmere socks, and a pair of undies so you can labor and birth and not feel like slob.

Delayed cord clamping and it’s benefits. Extra blood from the placenta can be as much as 30 to 40 percent of the baby’s total blood volume which helps prevent anemia in the first 6 months of life.

This video on what’s known as “the breast crawl” is possibly the coolest most convincing reason to breastfeed. It’s so natural that a baby directly after birth will inch it’s way towards a mom’s nipple and latch naturally. I’ll be doing immediate skin-to-skin contact with Adam, as well as immediate breastfeeding. This option is ALWAYS available, and don’t think that the baby needs to be whisked away from you and immediately tested. Those tests can make a newborn (most alert in the first hour of birth) drowsy, which will in turn make him refuse to breastfeed. If that goes on too long, a nurse will almost always try to push you into formula feeding him. I’ve found that to be true for Kuwait.

DIAPERS/DIAPER BAG

I’ll be making my own baby wipes, and I felt like this was an interesting “recipe.” You use a high quality paper towel roll cut in half, then soak it in the concoction for 20 minutes before removing the cardboard tube out of the middle. Not sure how to find diaper bag friendly solutions for it yet though!

I’ve purchased these to help me stay organized with Adam’s diaper bag!

I’ve also purchased this to stick into my baby’s “diaper bag” which is actually a Givenchy extra large Rottweiler tote *runs away from diaper bags*

BREASTFEEDING:

I WANT THIS! The Etsy seller no longer has them up, but since I’ll be breastfeeding…WANT!

NURSERY:

How I want the nursery changing station to look!

KEEPSAKES:

How I want to capture his newborn stats! TOO CUTE!

Cute keepsake bracelet of your baby’s birthday

BABY CLOTHING/GEAR:

Baby wearing for Dads using the Sakura Bloom sling. The only sling Ahmad will wear, we went through countless “nope…nope…nopes” before he liked this one!

Adorable! I just had a baby myself, so I remember going through all thus excitement with high expectations for myself while I was pregnant haha. Idk how the hospitals in Kuwait are, but in NY they provide you with you need… And some of it I took advantage of. One, was the mesh undies– because it’s not worth making a mess of cute ones– I don’t want to get into it, but it’s not cute lol. I didn’t put my own pjs on until after I had showered. And with that I recommend a botton down sleep shirt…I had a cute Ralph Lauren one, and it’s the smartest thing I brought to the hospital! The buttons because it makes it easier for feedings, and the short dress part to make it easier for when they come and check on you, and those runs (and I mean RUNS) to the bathroom– it will be hard to hold your urine.
In terms of breast feeding, I recommend feeding in demand rather on a schedule for at least the first month… Than slowly going into a schedule after. Only because you don’t want to force the baby to eat when she’s not hungry causing discomfort for him because they sleep a lot– also, if he wants to nurse more frequently, it will help your supply. This is what I did, and was recommended to do by a laction consultant. Also, feed completely on one breast for each feeding because at first is like skim milk, and it gets to the more whole milk the further along he eats. So switch each breast through each feeding, but try not to go by the 10 minutes on each side kind of thing.

A product for mommy that I recommend is the baby bandit. Search it! It really helps the belly go back to normal, and it actually helped in giving me a lot of lower back support.
I know advice is annoying, haha but it’s for u to choose to follow or not! ;) best of luck habibtee.

Ascia, first I would like to congratulate you and your husband on the arrival of your baby!!! I’ve been following you for quite some and you looked absolutely lovely through your entire pregnancy(of course, you are gorgeous no matter what!). I was wondering if you will be sharing your experience on giving birth and if you followed the delayed cord clam or the breast crawl? Hows life being a parent? I wish you both the best on this new journey. :)
